Method Paper Available.

Gerard Cheshire

Dear Text Encoding Initiative Consortium,

Following the publication of the peer-reviewed paper The Language and Writing System of MS408 (Voynich) Explained, in the journal Romance Studies, many scholars have requested a method paper of instruction in order to participate in translating the entire manuscript.

Thus, a free method paper is know available to download from the LingBuzz website, titled The Algorithmic Method for Translating MS408 (Voynich)https://ling.auf.net/lingbuzz/004653

The manuscript originates from Castello Aragonese, Ischia, Italy, c. 1444, and was written as an aid mémoire for Maria of Castile, Queen of Aragon. It uses a previously unknown writing system and alphabet, and it is written in a lost language known as proto-Romance.

It is only indirectly related to TEI interests perhaps, but it does use new letter symbols that will require encoding as a new font in due course.

Kindest regards,

Dr. Gerard Cheshire.
